SuperControl guide
SEO for a SuperControl website
Property pages, location content, and the technical work the platform will not do for you.
The competition is weaker than it looks
Search results for UK self-catering are dominated by the agencies, and it is easy to conclude that an independent site cannot compete. At head-term level that is largely true — you will not outrank Sykes for ‘cottages in Cornwall’ and should not try.
At property and long-tail level the picture reverses completely. ‘Dog friendly cottage with hot tub near Padstow’ has modest volume, high intent and almost no serious competition, because the agencies build for the head and nobody builds for the tail.
What to build
Distinct property pages first, with real location context and correct structured data. Then location pages for the areas your properties actually sit in, written by someone who knows them. Then guides answering the specific questions guests ask before booking.
Question-led content is worth particular attention. Full-sentence queries are how people increasingly search, and pages structured as a clear question with a direct answer underneath perform disproportionately well.
- One page per property, with distinct copy — not a template with the name swapped
- Location pages with genuine local knowledge, not paraphrased Wikipedia
- Guides: dog-friendly beaches, wet-weather days, walks from the door, parking
- Structured data on properties, FAQs and breadcrumbs
Technical work the platform will not do
SuperControl runs your bookings, not your search visibility. Core Web Vitals, crawlable architecture, canonical handling, internal linking and sitemap hygiene are all website-side responsibilities.
So is migration safety. If you are rebuilding, the URL map and redirect plan are the difference between keeping your rankings and starting again.
Questions people actually ask
Straight answers.
Can a single cottage rank against Sykes?
Not for head terms, and comfortably for the right long-tail ones.
Ten specific phrases with real intent are worth more to a single property than one competitive term you will never win.
How important is local content?
Very. It is the main thing that distinguishes a site worth ranking from a property grid.
It is also the part the agencies do worst, because they cannot write with genuine local knowledge at scale.
Does SuperControl affect my SEO?
The platform is neutral. What affects your SEO is the website in front of it.
The embedded booking engine adds some weight to the page, which we account for by keeping everything else light.
