A self-catering property of the kind managed in Lodgify

Lodgify website design for people who have outgrown the builder.

Lodgify got you online quickly, and that was the right call at the time. But a drag-and-drop template has a ceiling, and if you are reading this you have probably found it. Keep the engine. Replace the shopfront.

The situation

The builder that gets everyone started, and keeps nobody.

Lodgify is the most website-forward platform in the market, and it deserves the position. A branded, mobile-friendly direct booking site with no coding, a commission-free engine on the Professional tier and up, and a REST API underneath it11. For a host with one or two properties it is genuinely hard to beat.

The ceiling arrives in the same three places every time: property page structure you cannot really control, search and filtering that cannot express how guests narrow a choice across a portfolio, and nowhere sensible to put the location content that earns organic traffic. Worth knowing too that the Starter plan carries a 1.9% booking fee on direct bookings, which the higher tiers remove11.

Integration

How we connect to Lodgify.

01Not what we build

Lodgify website builder

The native drag-and-drop

Quick, cheap and included. Template layouts, limited property page control and no realistic home for editorial content. Excellent for launching. A ceiling for growing.

02Most common

Embedded booking engine

Lodgify inside a site we design

Keep the Lodgify engine for the transactional steps and put a properly designed site around it. Fast to build, and the right answer for most operators under about ten properties.

03Portfolios & agencies

REST API

Fully custom, on your domain

Lodgify publishes a REST API11. Property, availability and pricing data pulled through it and rendered by us — custom search, filters, map views and static-fast pages.

What we do differently

Nine things a custom Lodgify build gets right.

01

Availability at first paint

The calendar is the product. It belongs on the property page immediately, not three clicks in or hidden behind a tab.

02

Honest total pricing, early

Cleaning, pets, extras and deposits shown before the final step. Surprise costs at checkout are the biggest single cause of abandonment.

03

Rules made visible

Changeover days, seasonal minimums and short-break windows shown in the availability display, so nobody selects dates they cannot have.

04

Property pages built for search

One page per property, properly structured, with location, sleeps, features and schema markup. These are the pages that rank.

05

Photography given room

Full-width, fast-loading, art-directed. If the interiors are why people book, stop showing them at 600 pixels wide.

06

Mobile-first booking

61% of online accommodation bookings now happen on mobile2. The date picker is designed for a thumb first.

07

Speed as a design constraint

A tenth of a second of mobile speed is worth around 10% on travel booking rates5. Load time is a design decision.

08

Content that earns traffic

Location and guide pages answering what guests actually search, linked properly into the property pages.

09

Migration without rank loss

Full URL map, one-hop 301s, metadata carried across and daily Search Console monitoring for the first fortnight.

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers about Lodgify and direct bookings.

Is Lodgify's website builder good enough on its own?

For one to five properties where speed to launch matters more than brand, yes. Beyond that it becomes the thing holding the direct channel back rather than enabling it.

The tell is usually organic traffic. If your site ranks for your own business name and nothing else, the builder is the reason — there is nowhere to put the location pages, guides and property-level content that search actually rewards.

Can I keep Lodgify and use a different website?

Yes, and it is what we would normally recommend. Lodgify keeps running your channels, calendars and payments; we replace only the front end, either by embedding the booking engine or by building against the REST API11.

Nothing changes operationally. Your Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo connections are untouched, your rates stay where they are, and you carry on working in the same dashboard.

Does Lodgify charge commission on direct bookings?

On the Starter plan, 1.9% per direct booking. Professional and Ultimate remove the fee entirely11.

Against 14–16% to Airbnb or roughly 15% to Booking.com3, 1.9% is still a bargain. But if you are pushing volume through the direct channel, the upgrade usually pays for itself faster than people expect.

What does a custom Lodgify site give me that the builder does not?

Control over the three things that decide whether a direct channel works: how the property page is structured, how guests search a portfolio, and whether the site can host content that ranks.

Plus speed. Template builders carry a lot of weight they cannot shed, and 61% of accommodation bookings now happen on mobile2, where that weight costs you most.

Will I lose my Google rankings if I move off the Lodgify site?

Not if the migration is planned. Full URL map, one-hop 301 redirects, metadata carried across and daily Search Console monitoring for the first fortnight.

Most Lodgify sites have modest organic footprints to begin with, which makes this migration lower-risk than most. The upside is that a properly built site can start earning traffic the template never could.

Can you build a Lodgify site for more than ten properties?

Yes, and past that point the API route is usually the only sensible one. Portfolio search, filtering and map views are exactly where template builders stop being viable.

Around twenty properties the site stops being a brochure and becomes a search product. That is a different discipline, and it needs to be designed as one.

To be clear

We are not Lodgify, and we are not trying to replace it.

Lodgify is booking and channel management software with a website builder attached, and the software half is good. We do not resell it or compete with it. We build the site that replaces the builder half while everything else carries on exactly as it is.
