SuperControl guide

SuperControl booking engine integration

How the embed works, what it can be styled to do, and when to go API instead.

01

No API required, which is the point

SuperControl's standard integration is designed so a web designer can implement it without touching an API. That is deliberate and it is one of the reasons the platform is so widely used by small UK operators — the booking engine is a solved problem before the project starts.

For a single cottage or a small collection, this is almost always the right route. It is robust, it is supported by SuperControl directly, and it will not break when something is updated at three in the morning in the middle of the season.

02

How far the styling goes

Meaningfully far, and not infinitely. Colours, typography and spacing can be brought close to your brand. The structure of the transactional steps is SuperControl's.

We design the pages either side of the engine so carefully that the transition reads as intentional. In practice guests do not notice a well-placed embed; they notice a badly placed one, or one that arrives after they have already decided to leave.

  • Availability visible on the property page at first paint
  • Total pricing including extras shown before the engine is reached
  • Changeover and minimum-stay rules surfaced in the calendar, not at checkout
  • Visual language held constant through the transition
03

When the API becomes necessary

Portfolio search is the usual trigger. Once guests need to filter across properties by sleeps, dogs, hot tub or location, the embed cannot express it and the API can.

The second trigger is checkout control. If an on-domain payment step is genuinely important to you — and for some brands it is — that requires the API route and should be scoped as such.

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers.

Does SuperControl need an API for a custom website?

No. SuperControl's standard integration is designed to work without one, which makes it unusually accessible for small operators.

The API exists for portfolios needing custom search, filtering or an on-domain checkout.

Can the booking form match my brand exactly?

Close, not exact. Colours and type can be brought in line; the step structure is SuperControl's.

Where exact control matters we build against the API instead and scope it honestly.

Will the embed slow my site down?

It adds weight, and we account for it by loading it correctly and keeping everything else light.

A tenth of a second is worth around 10% on travel booking rates5, so the rest of the page has to earn back what the embed costs.
