Hostaway guide
An alternative to Hostaway Booking Website Pro
What the $49-a-month add-on gives you, where it stops, and what replacing it actually costs.
What Pro actually adds
Booking Website Pro is a genuine upgrade on the free Standard site, and it is worth understanding before replacing it. It brings a full editor with conversion-oriented templates, AI-powered SEO tooling, a marketing suite covering email, pop-ups and lead capture, an AI content assistant with a blog, multiple websites and native widgets7.
That is a lot of product for the money. If you are choosing between the free Standard site and Pro, Pro wins easily — not least because Standard redirects the guest to a Hostaway-hosted page to complete the reservation7.
Where it still stops
Templates with an editor are still templates. The property page hierarchy, the gallery behaviour and the way a portfolio is searched remain within a range someone else decided, and that range is set to suit every Hostaway customer at once.
AI-generated titles and meta descriptions are useful and are not the same thing as an information architecture that ranks. Content generated by an assistant tends to read like content generated by an assistant, which is an increasingly poor bet as search gets better at noticing.
- Property page structure still fixed within template bounds
- Portfolio search and filtering limited to the built-in components
- 0.5% reservation fee on direct bookings through Pro, plus 1.8% guest fee in the US8
- Editorial content constrained to the built-in blog
The honest cost comparison
Pro is $49 a month. A custom build is a capital cost with a much smaller ongoing one. Over three years the numbers are closer than they first appear, particularly once the 0.5% reservation fee is included on any real volume.
The decision should not be made on cost alone. It should be made on whether the constraints above are currently costing you bookings. If they are not, keep Pro — we will tell you so.
Questions people actually ask
Straight answers.
Is Hostaway Booking Website Pro worth it?
Against the free Standard site, comfortably yes — particularly because Standard sends the guest off your domain to complete the booking7.
Against a custom build it depends entirely on whether template constraints are costing you bookings today.
What does Pro cost per booking?
0.5% on direct bookings through it, plus a 1.8% guest-facing fee in the US8.
Small next to 14–16% to Airbnb3, but real, and worth including in any three-year comparison.
Can I move off Pro without losing rankings?
Yes, with a planned migration: full URL map, one-hop 301s, metadata carried across and Search Console monitored after launch.
Sites built on Pro's AI SEO tooling often have shallow but real footprints. They migrate cleanly.
